This is a new park established in 2005 to protect the declining population of elephants. Elevation ranges from 700m to 2,540m above sea level. Rainfall ranges from 1,200mm to 2,300mm per annum, and the temperature ranges from 10 to 29 degrees C. The wet season is from March to September, and the dry season extends from December to February.

Location: 460km southwest of Addis Abeba, in KontaWereda, Dawro Zone, Southern Nations Regional State.
Size: 1,215sqkm.

Things to See and Do: It harbors at least 60 individual elephants in different herds. Lesser and greater kudu, lion, serval cat, and buffalo are also seen.

Getting There: One can reach the park following either the Addis Abeba to Jima to Ameya Road or Addis Abeba to Shashemene to Sodo to Waka to Tocha Road. The park road is under study. However, there is some 80km of rough dry weather road crossing the western side of the park with views of the entire park. It is also possible to trek inside the park, following footpaths, with the help of a local guide.
